As 2019 comes to a close and we enter into a new decade, 2020 promises to bring exciting opportunities and events to our community. Over the past year we have made significant improvements through the combined hard work and dedication from neighbors like you.
In 2020, we will be seeing the addition of hundreds of affordable and permanent supportive housing units come to fruition, which will help alleviate the pressure from the housing crisis.
We will also be opening the first "Bridge Home" site in CD 9, which will help our most vulnerable neighbors transition from the streets into a safe location where they will be offered medical, mental health and social services to help get them back on their feet. In addition, we have several other innovative programs in the works to help ease some of the obstacles people are facing, including the Homelessness Prevention Program, which will provide benefits to individuals on the cusp of homelessness.
Entering into 2020, our Clean & Green campaign is going strong and we encourage you to make using the MyLA311 app part of your daily routine. You can report trash, bulky items, graffiti and other sanitation issues directly from your phone, and with your help we will continue to make strides in ensuring that South LA is a beautiful place for families to live, work, play and thrive.
Next year will also be a banner year as 2020 marks the 25th Anniversary of the Central Avenue Jazz Festival. Surrounded by the rich history of one of the most historical sites in Los Angeles, this event boasts multiple stages featuring both legendary and up-and-coming performing artists, so you can bet that this event is going to be one you will not want to miss.
Whether you have come out to enjoy fireworks under the stars at our 4th of July event, danced with us at our Mother’s Day celebration, or played in the snow at one of our Winter Wonderland events, you have been the reason I continue to fight to make South Los Angeles a place you are proud to live.
