On Feb. 11, Councilmember Curren Price was joined by medical leaders in the South LA community, Dr. Jerry Abraham from Kedren Community Health Center and Dr. Kamala Gipson-McElroy of St. John's Well Child and Family Center, for a candid conversation on COVID-19 vaccine reluctance and access barriers in minority communities. The experts discussed a range of issues from vaccination hesitancy, health disparities in underserved communities, as well as how children and families are being affected during the pandemic.
The local doctors offered a first-hand look at how the virus sweeping across the world is directly impacting the District 9 community, discussing the efforts being made to get South LA vaccinated, as well as debunking myths surrounding vaccine hesitancy in communities of color and the dire need to dismantle access barriers for people of color to obtain the COVID-19 vaccine.
