On Nov. 19, the Angel City Football Club (ACFC), Los Angeles’ newest professional women's sports team, announced that the Banc of California Stadium in District 9 will be their home field when the team begins playing for the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) in 2022.
“From the Vice Presidency to our World Championship Los Angeles Sparks women's basketball team, and now with the addition of Angel City FC, the women of the United States are lighting trails on fire,” said Councilman Curren Price during the official announcement. “What a refreshing example this is to the legions of little girls that will fill this stadium, especially for all of the black and brown girls that live here in my District.”
Banc of California Stadium is also the home of the Major League Soccer team, the Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC).
Councilman Price joined Angel City FC Founder and President Julie Uhrman, Mayor Eric Garcetti, LA County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, LAFC Co-President and Chief Business Officer Larry Freedman, LAFC co-owner Larry Berg, NWSL Commissioner Lisa Baird, and numerous Angel City founding investors to commemorate the milestone during a press conference this week.
