Councilman Price Joins A Step to Freedom to Kick-off Warm the Streets Event

Councilmember Price visited a A Step to Freedom (ASF) on Nov. 12, along with dozens of volunteers and community partners, including Homeless Outreach Program Integrated Care System (HOPICS), LADWP and representatives of the LA Chargers, for the launch of the annual “Warm the Streets” event, which provides blankets to thousands of unhoused individuals.

Over the course of three days, not only did this cohort of volunteers, community leaders, partners and ASF staff descend on South LA to deliver over 10,000 blankets to homeless individuals, they also offered services and provided much-needed resources as the cold winter months approach.

Within District 9, Team Price has been focused on creating housing as a key component to solve the humanitarian crisis. Whether affordable, permanent supportive housing (PSH), transitional, tiny homes, as well as shelters, no option is being left off of the table. Under Councilman Price’s leadership, nearly 2,700 units of affordable and homeless housing will be coming to District 9, with nearly 900 of those units ready to welcome tenants by the end of 2022.

“Every effort to help those who are unhoused is important. These are our neighbors, and we cannot turn our backs on them during their darkest hours,” said Councilmember Price. “Bravo to all of the volunteers who took part in connecting with our neighbors, letting them know they are seen. ”
