Let’s give it up for the students at Ánimo Jackie Robinson Charter High School in District 9! Their student body is the inaugural winner of Councilman Curren Price's “Don’t Trash CD 9” high school challenge.
As part of Councilman Price's continuous efforts to clean up South LA, he recently launched a one-of-a-kind competition targeting local high school students. From Oct. 28-Dec. 9, a dozen local high schools battled each other to see which would report the most illegal dumping, bulky-items and graffiti using the MyLA311 app.
The first leg of the competition resulted in more than 2,100 MyLA311 requests, with Ánimo Jackie Robinson submitting just under 1,500 of them. Ánimo Jackie Robinson High School will not only have bragging rights, but they were also awarded $5,000 for their hard work in making Council District 9 cleaner and greener. Because of these students’ efforts more residents are able to see the real beauty of CD 9.
The competing 12 schools will have five more chances to win as this competition will continue to run until May 2020. Please join us in congratulating these CD 9 champs!
