Price Applauds NBA Sanctions of Clippers Owner Donald Sterling and asks LA Fans to Continue Supporting Local Team

Councilmember Curren D. Price Jr. issued the following statement Tuesday, following the NBA Commission’s announcement of sanctions against Donald Sterling:

“I applaud NBA Commissioner Adam Silver for his swift and forceful action against Clippers Owner Donald Sterling. These penalties clearly show the league’s commitment to eradicating racism and hate speech, and I strongly urge other NBA team owners to support this action by forcing the ouster of Sterling from basketball for good. As the representative for the Staples Center, home to the Los Angeles Clippers, I am also proud to stand with my Council colleagues who today unanimously approved a resolution supporting the NBA’s decision to ban Sterling from team games and practices and demanding a personal apology to civic leader Magic Johnson and the entire city. Additionally, I understand and support the community’s desire and right to protest the ignorance displayed by Sterling with a public protest, I simply urge all participants to keep their action peaceful and organized. We should also be careful to not penalize our hardworking Clipper’s players, who are determined to earn our city an NBA Championship, even as they struggle through this very challenging time.”
