Name/Title: Paloma Pérez-McEvoy, Deputy Chief of Staff and Director of Planning & Economic Development
My job entails: Represent the Council Office on all land use and economic development matters involving legal, political and community relations issues in the Ninth District, including the development of a 22,000-person Major League Soccer stadium; $1 billion mixed-use The Reef project; and the renovation and expansion of the Los Angeles Convention Center. Work with developers and their representatives in the entitlement and development process, which includes negotiating community benefits agreements, advising applicants on community outreach, and providing testimony at administrative hearings. Collaborate with local businesses and potential investors to identify potential economic incentives and subsidies to attract investment in the region.
What most excites me about my work is: The ability to work with community leaders and developers to improve the quality of life in the New 9th.
In the past, I have worked with: Councilmember Tony Cárdenas; Lt. Governor Cruz Bustamante; Senator Byron Sher; Assemblymember Manny Díaz; Senator Richard Alarcón
My all-time role models are my parents because they instilled the values in me that I try to live up to each day.
The best advice I’d give to my younger self is: Take every single opportunity to travel, have new experiences, see the world, and meet new people.
My favorite book of all time is: Like Water for Chocolate
The three things I can’t live without are: Lipstick, sunglasses, and music.
