On Tuesday, Dec. 3, Councilwoman Nury Martinez became the first Latina to be elected Los Angeles City Council President.
Councilwoman Martinez will assume her new role starting in January 2020. Throughout her career, she has proven that she is imminently qualified for this job; championing the needs of children and families, empowering women and girls, fighting human trafficking, tackling the threat of climate change, and so on.
"All her life, Nury Martinez has had to fight to gain a seat at the table," Councilman Curren Price said. "This week, we put her at the head of it. The Councilwoman has been a champion in the corner of all Angelenos and there is no doubt in my mind that her fierce leadership will continue to guide the City in a positive direction."
