Name/Title: Marisa Alcaraz, Policy Director

My job entails: Forming, developing and implementing policies for the City of Los Angeles, including Citywide Minimum Wage, Legalizing Street Vending, and Ban the Box. I also staff the Councilmember during Council sessions, Economic Development Committee, and Housing Committee, and am point on budget issues.

What most excites me about my work is: Being able to work on policy that positively impacts Angelenos!

In the past, I have worked with: Senator Barbara Boxer, the California Democratic Party, Councilmember Richard Alarcon, University of California, Irvine.

My all-time role model is Jesus because he's the man.

The best advice I’d give to my younger self is: Travel, travel, travel!

My favorite book of all time is: I don’t think I can pick just one, so here are a few of my favorites - Persuasion by Jane Austen, Franny and Zooey by JD Salinger, Siddhartha by Herman Hesse, Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy, Dubliners by James Joyce, and the Harry Potter series :)

The three things I can’t live without are: family, yoga, tea
